The Royal Commissioner held three online forums with parents and caregivers of South Australian children on 31 January.

Forum #1 was co-convened with Lynne Rutherford Chief Executive of Gowrie SA for parents and carers of children with disability. The Commissioner heard from parents about specific challenges to finding services that are inclusion aware, and the impact that high quality ECEC can have for children with disabilities and their families. The need for timely access to support or therapeutic interventions was also raised with the Commissioner.

Forum #2 was co-convened with Auntie Suzanne Russell, senior Kaurna woman and early years educator to talk with parents, carers and service providers. The session discussed the importance of culture and embedding Aboriginal ways of knowing and learning into the Commission’s policy thinking.

Forum #3 was co-convened with Georgie Dent, Chief Executive of The Parenthood for parents and carers of young children in South Australia. The Commissioner heard from parents and carers about their experiencing of preschool and childcare and how critical services were for families.

Thank you to all the parents, carers and services who participated in the forum.
